Caring for our world

As well as serving our neighbours, we are involved in the work of building God’s kingdom around the world.

Christians have such good news of what God has done, they love to share it with others.

Members of Grace are involved in Bible translation in a number of countries. We also believe that the work of God's Church is to help build a kingdom of justice and care for those often marginalised. The church gives a significant proportion of its annual income to missionary and social projects both in the UK and overseas.

This has included work in AIDS orphanages in South Africa, a medical charity in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a church group in Nepal and short term mission trips to places such as Myanmar, India, South Africa, Tanzania and Lebanon. Over the years. we have also had members work in Sri Lanka, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya and Djibouti.

We not only want to support our partners financially but also pray for them.

The majority of our funds go to long term partners of the Church but we also encourage Home Groups to identify others we can help. Home Groups are provided information and once a quarter we receive a presentation on two partners to help us pray. There is also a monthly prayer group for Africa which focuses on the work of Africa Inland Mission.

The UK-based charity Friends of CME Trust seeks to relieve sickness and poverty in the north-eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The primary focus of the support is the Centre Medical Evangelique (CME) in its medical and educational work. The needs are vast, the resources are few, yet comparatively little can have a significant impact on the lives of many.

As a result of the massacres at Beni, there are many new orphans who have settled in Oicha not far away. Some of these children do not even know yet that they have lost their parents.

Their psychological needs are complex in addition to the physical and developmental. The help will provide, food, school uniforms and materials and trauma counselling. It will be overseen by Daniel Masumbuko who lived in Kempston and attended our Church with his family for two years.

Our church has been hugely enriched by the privilege of friendship with followers of Christ from different countries. People from many races and backgrounds now make up the family here – a small reflection of what God is doing around the world.

We have joined with Open Doors, to help support Syrian refugee camps in Lebanon, helping to run holiday clubs for displaced children.

In this article, discover how Open Doors partners like Pastor George are keeping hope alive in their communities, thanks to your gifts and prayers.

I am excited to have found a church which looks beyond it’s own 4 walls! The church is made up of people from many different backgrounds, and is committed to serving people all over the world.
