WHAT WE BELIEVE
At Grace, our beliefs are centred on the person of Jesus Christ and the message of the Bible.
We recognise that people come to church from many different backgrounds and with lots of different questions. Whether you’re exploring Christianity for the first time or have been part of church life for years, we want Grace to be a place where you can ask questions, think deeply, and discover more about the Christian faith.
The following is a summary of the core beliefs that shape who we are as a church and how we live together. It is based on the Bible, which we believe is God’s trustworthy word and the foundation for Christian faith and life.
AN OVERVIEW OF OUR CORE BELIEFS
-
We believe there is one true and living God who exists eternally as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God is holy, loving, wise and powerful – the creator and sustainer of all things.
-
We believe the Bible is God’s word to humanity. Written through human authors and inspired by God, it is trustworthy and teaches us all we need to know about God, faith and life.
-
We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins, rose from the dead, and now reigns as Lord. Through Him, people can know forgiveness, peace with God and the hope of eternal life.
-
We believe every person is made in the image of God and has dignity, value and purpose. At the same time, humanity is broken by sin and separated from God, which is why we all need forgiveness, rescue and new life through Jesus Christ.
-
We believe salvation is a gift of God’s grace. It cannot be earned or deserved, but is freely offered through Jesus Christ to all who trust in Him. Those who believe are forgiven, welcomed into God’s family and given eternal life.
-
We believe the Holy Spirit works in the lives of believers – helping people understand the Bible, grow in faith, become more like Jesus and serve others with the gifts God has given them.
-
We believe the church is a community of people who follow Jesus together. Local churches exist to worship God, teach the Bible, care for one another, share the Christian message and serve the world around them.
-
We believe baptism and the Lord’s Supper were given by Jesus as visible signs of the Christian faith. Baptism symbolises new life in Christ, and the Lord’s Supper helps us remember Jesus’ death and resurrection and all He has done for us.
-
We believe Jesus Christ will one day return to judge the world and make all things new. Those who trust in Him will enjoy eternal joy and fellowship with God forever.
